Barry JenkinsWhat's actually happening?
When you change focal length and move the camera to keep the subject the same size, something happens: the relationship between foreground and background completely changes.
Wide lenses (14–35mm) exaggerate depth. Objects close to camera appear much larger than distant objects.
Telephoto lenses (85–200mm) compress depth. Distant objects appear larger relative to near objects.
This isn't zoom — it's fundamentally different. Zoom crops. Focal length changes perspective.
